The Auburn Enlarged City School District is telling families a man was taken into custody after flashing what appeared to be a handgun at student athletes.
In an automated call heard throughout the district, a man rode by the girls lacrosse team at the Auburn Junior High School and flashed a gun at them.
The incident took place after school; and what appeared to be a handgun turned out to be a BB gun.
While there isn’t any risk to families or students at this time, the incident raises concerns about student safety while at school and school-related events.
The man was later identified as Thomas Ivery, who’s been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, menacing, and unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds.
Ivery was located on Grant Avenue and found in possession of the BB gun that looked like a handgun.
